RIDGE Group was established in 1992 to research and develop the practice of Quality Deer Management and establish the deer population of Queensland as a sustainable resource.

The key objectives of the RIDGE Group are:

To research the impact that deer have on the environment and to develop and implement management strategies both solely and in conjunction with Government Departments or agencies and private organisations and individuals.

To identify the genetic path of Australia’s wild deer herds and develop and implement strategies to improve their potential and secure their future.

To promote the recreational, economic and historical value of deer.

To foster better relations between Government Departments, landowners and hunters.

Join us on an incredible journey as The RIDGE Group leads groundbreaking research in
collaboration with Sunshine Coast University to extract DNA from the Historic Red Deer Herd
of Queensland. Our mission is to uncover the genetic ties that connect this treasured herd to The
Great Windsor Park Deer Herd!

Together, let's uncover the rich history of our remarkable herd and bring their legacy to life!

At The RIDGE Group, we advocate for the preservation of the historic Red Deer herd. Our aim is
to work collaboratively with government officials and all stakeholders to review the current Pest
status designation and implement a sustainable, humane deer management strategy that aligns
with our conservation efforts. By championing responsible management practices, we can ensure
the enduring protection of this significant herd for future generations to cherish.

We're thrilled to report that most of the samples we've collected are ready for DNA testing, bringing us closer to unveiling the mysteries of our historic deer lineage. As we eagerly await the results expected in February/March, we have engaged with key organizations in the United Kingdom for support.

Our discussions have included the British Deer Society to establish a genetic link to the royal herd initially presented to Queensland by Queen Victoria in 1873.These royal deer, descendants of the renowned Windsor Great Park herd, hold a special place in Queensland's history, embodying a heartfelt gesture from Queen Victoria herself.

In our pursuit of knowledge, we've connected with Windsor Castle Great Park, The Royal Archives, and the head curator of The Royal Family at Windsor Castle. Our joint efforts aim to secure DNA samples from the UK, promising to conclusively link our Brisbane Valley herd to its royal origins. We extend our sincere gratitude to all contributors, participants, and donators who have backed our ‘Will You Save Me’ DNA Research initiative. Your ongoing support propels our passion and commitment to this project.
